According to police, Mohammed was inside the restaurant with a friend when they were approached by a group of individuals who proceeded to rob his friend’s expensive jewellery.

“After the robbery, the offenders remained in the rear,” said Det. Sgt. Gary Giroux at a press conference Friday. “Once the firearms were hidden, they moved back into the main area of the restaurant.”

Following the robbery at the rear of the restaurant, police say Mohammed and his friend managed to get away from the offenders.

“At this point, Mohammed moved to the front take out counter where a violent encounter took place,” said Det. Sgt. Giroux.

“Two shots were fired, they strike two female victims. A struggle continued with Mohammed, he falls behind the take out counter and shot numerous times.”

Police say the restaurant was packed with between 60 to 80 people at the time of the shooting, and that around two dozen witnesses were interviewed.

Marcus Gibson, 22, and Ceyon Carrington, 28, of Toronto both face charges including first-degree murder and robbery with a firearm.

Police say the suspects fled southbound on Chestnut St. following the shooting.

“We see them arriving together on video, we see them leaving together on video,” said Det. Sgt. Giroux.
